All applicants must audition in person on this day. No alternative arrangements are possible.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all high school students (grades 9-12) who reside in Colorado and play an orchestral woodwind, brass, percussion, or string instrument (including piano and harp). Previous first place winners of the competition are ineligible to apply, but those who have formerly received honorable mention may reapply.
Competition Rules: Applicants will perform (from memory) one movement of a major concerto or work, of which orchestral parts are readily available. Performance time is limited to fifteen minutes per contestant, and cuts may be made so long as they are clearly marked in all copies of the judges’ music. All soloists must perform with piano accompaniment, and must provide their own accompanist. The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the competition.
Competition Day: Contestants must provide the judges with at least one published score of the music (with measures numbered). Photocopies are insufficient and may not be used by the judges or performers. Unauthorized music copies are unacceptable and will disqualify the contestant. Please obey current copyright laws and contact The
Loveland Orchestra with any questions. Please arrive well in advance of your scheduled audition time. Warm-up rooms with pianos will be available.
Awards: The judges will select one winner to receive a $500 cash award and perform as the featured soloist for the orchestra’s concert. The winner is also expected to attend the dress rehearsal. Both the dress rehearsal and concert will be held at Good Shepherd Church (3429 N. Monroe Ave. Loveland, CO 80538). Second place will receive a $100 cash award at this concert. The decision of the judges is final, and is non-negotiable.
Payment: In addition to completing the application form, applicants must also submit a non-refundable payment of $40.00 made payable to “The Loveland Orchestra.”
